Lazio Region (Latium), the region of Rome, is one of the twenty Italian Regions. It’s located in the heart of Europe and at the Centre of the Mediterranean region, a crossroad towards the Middle East and South-East Asia
Rome is the region’s main city and Italy’s capital. Lazio ranks third among Italy’s regions for number of inhabitants (5 million and 300 thousand residents) and its workforce accounts for 9,7 percent of country’s total amount.
Lazio is the 2nd Italian Region for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) with 198 Bn euros, contributing to 11,2% of Italian national GDP. It is one of the most important R&D systems in Italy.
Lazio is the location of important industrial and multinational groups with their own R&D centres, and the Italian Region with the highest level of specialization in manufacturing and in high-tech knowledge intensive sectors.
The Lazio AGRIFOOD SYSTEM integrates technological contents from other sectors such as aerospace, Ict, nanotechnologies, new materials and biotechnologies.
